Are your friends and family allies or foe in your weight loss journey?

Supporters in weight loss are
important of your success!
In order to succeed in changing your health and well being, you need your family and friends to have your back.  When you feel you are slipping, a support system needs to be in place.  They can help you stay on track by making the right choices.  Be upfront with your goals because the more people that you have supporting you the more success you will have.

Allies – (Wikipedia), are people, groups, or states that have joined in an alliance of mutual benefit or to achieve some common purpose, whether or not an explicit agreement has been worked out between them.

Family and friends are vital in achieving your weight loss goals; they can support you, motivate you, make you accountable and help celebrate your successes.

How can they support and motivate you?
  • Exercise buddy – walking on your lunch hour, working out together.
  • Lunch buddy – share healthy lunches or when dining out making sure you are not tempted by fried foods, excessive carbs or outrageous desserts.
  • Help in the search for restaurants that have healthy options.

Saboteur!! Beware!!

Foe – (Wikipedia) Enemy or foe is an individual or a group that is seen as forcefully adverse or threatening. The concept of an enemy has been observed to be "basic for both individuals and communities".[1] The term "enemy" serves the social function of designating a particular entity as a threat, thereby invoking an intense emotional response to that entity.[2] The state of being or having an enemy is enmity, foehood or foeship.

How are they a saboteur?

Exercise buddy – or someone who says “you’re always working out… you can take a break.”  No, let’s go eat you don’t need to exercise.

Lunch buddy – or cheat buddy… every time you go to lunch you have high carb/high fat meals which include dessert.  They tempt you with foods that they know you are trying to avoid.

At the beginning, it might take time for your family/friends to understand that you mean business.  It’s up to you to stress how important achieving your goals are to you.  If you know that a friend is a bad influence, it might be beneficial to avoid situations that will hinder your progress.
